Who is a candidate for Cosmetic Dentistry treatment?

Previously, little could be done to attain the smile you always dreamed of. The treatments available to treat chipped, stained or crooked teeth were limited. Yet, today with the vast range of Cosmetic Dentistry treatments available, every smile can be aesthetically enhanced.

What are some of the results Cosmetic Dentistry treatment can achieve?

1. Rejuvenate discolored / stained teeth

2. Close gaps between teeth

3. Reduce the over-crowded nature of teeth

4. Straighten overlapping or crooked teeth

5. Cover chips

6. Conceal blemishes

7. Replace missing teeth

8. Repair breakages

9. Replace Amalgam Fillings with Tooth-colored Restorations

10. Gum Re-contouring for gummy smiles

What are the post-operative effects?

It is imperative that the patient has a caregiver who is able to drive them home and stay with them until the Sedation fully wears off. Do not perform any strenuous or hazardous activities and do not drive a motor vehicle for the rest of the day. It is advised that the patient should not eat a heavy meal immediately. If the patient is hungry then they should eat something light like toast. If the patient experiences nausea, then a good tip is to lie down for a while or drink a glass of coke. Do not drink alcohol or take medications for the rest of the day unless you have contacted your Dentist first. Always take medications as directed by your Dentist.

What are the side effects?

Some of the common side effects of Sedation Dentistry include:

* Retrograde amnesia – where a patient will have little or no recollection of the treatment.

* Little or no post-operative soreness – the patient will often recover sooner and not require any pain medications.

* A dry mouth – This is because the Sedation decreases the saliva flow.

* Hiccups – a small percentage of patients find that they experience hiccups. This is very uncommon, and usually only found in around 3% of patients and do not last longer than about 10 minutes.

How safe is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry is very safe. Statistics show that it is even safer than using local anesthetics. There has never been a report of a serious adverse incident with Sedation Dentistry. This is because a monitor is used to measure all of the patient’s vitals during and after the Sedation.

How soon can I have my new teeth?

Your Dental Implants need to bond (integrate) with the bone after they have been put in. This takes at least 3 months in the lower jaw and 6 months in the upper jaw. Sometimes the Implants may be stable enough when they are fitted for the artificial teeth to be attached much sooner than this.

Is Dental Implant surgery painful?

You will not experience any pain or discomfort. You will be relaxed and at ease throughout the procedure. You are not unconscious at any time, just in a deeply relaxed state.

Is there a chance my body will reject the Implant?

The body will not reject a Dental Implant. Dental Implants are made from titanium which is completely bio-compatible (compatible with body tissue). Over time the Dental Implant will actually integrate with the surrounding bone and become a part of the body.

Why have Dental Implants become so popular?

As our life span increases, the need for some type of permanent dental replacement system becomes very important to our overall health. Dentures and removable bridges are loose and unstable; causing many problems for wearers. Dental Implants provide patients with both functional and esthetic benefits and can dramatically increase a patient’s quality of life.

How much does the treatment cost?

The cost of treatment will vary according to whether one or both arches of teeth need treatment; how severe the problem is; the type of braces chosen; and whether there are alternatives to braces. A detailed quotation is given at the consultation visit. The cost of treatment is broken down over the course of treatment to make payment easier.

Will I need to have teeth removed?

In some cases teeth may need to be removed, in order to make enough room to fit crowded teeth into position. Fortunately, modern Orthodontics involves a much lower requirement to remove teeth, and, if treated at the correct age, teeth may only need to be removed in 10 to 15 percent of cases.

Will I still be able to talk when I have braces?

Yes, standard Braces should not affect how you talk or the sound of your voice.

In certain cases, we may need to use an appliance that could get in the way of your tongue. You may then experience slight trouble talking clearly for a day or two. However, your tongue will then readjust and you will be able to talk like normal.

Why is it so important to maintain dental health?

Maintaining your teeth and gums, as you age is an important step is sustaining your general health and well-being. Whilst exercising, eating right and regular health checks are important looking after your teeth and gums is also essential. Good dental health will help you to lead a long, happy and healthy life. What are the main benefits of dentistry treatment?
