Blepharoplasty (Eye Lid)
As we age, the muscleeyelids around our eyes tend to weaken and our skin begins to sag. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery (as it commonly referred to as) corrects droopy, puffy, or wrinkled upper and/or lower eyelids by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle. The remaining skin is smoothed to create a more rested and youthful appearance.
Sometimes, to achieve the desired results the surgeon will only have to work on your upper lids; however, with more extensive cases, he or she may need to improve the look of both lids to have them appear symmetrical and balanced. In older patients, eyelid surgery often becomes a necessity as excess skin can block their field of vision.

Buccal Fat Pad Extraction
Buccal fat extraction (usually pronounced like a buckle) is the procedure to remove the fat pads that augment the lower part of the cheeks. If you purse your lips to whistle or when you see someone “uck on a cigarette you will notice a chiseled, more hollow look. It is also a procedure that is often sought to remedy chipmunk cheeks. You may have heard it called cheek reduction surgery, as well.
It is a procedure than many catwalk, or runway, models look like they have gotten (maybe they have, who knows?) and it is also a look that many persons in their late 20′s to early 30′s begin to see naturally as they age.
Buccal fat extraction is done on an outpatient basis with light sleep sedation, regional anesthesia with sedation, local anesthesia with oral sedation or general IV sedation; the choice is up to you and your surgeon. The procedure usually takes about an hour. It can be combined with other procedures, including face lift.
During buccal fat extraction surgery, your surgeon will make an incision that is about two to four centimeters in length. The incision is located in the back of your mouth above your second upper molar. He will then cut through the buccinator muscle (one of the main muscles of your cheek). Then, by pressing on the outside of your cheek, your surgeon will cause the buccal fat to push through this incision. He or she will use a forceps to remove the unwanted cheek fat before closing with non-dissolvable sutures. Your surgeon may put a piece of antibiotic-soaked gauze between your upper molars and gums and/or apply a pressure dressing that spans from top of your head to underneath your chin.
Eating can be a challenge after buccal fat extraction because you will have incisions inside your mouth.You may be instructed to rinse with a mouthwash or an antiseptic solution several times a day. Keep your tongue away from your incisions and sutures.
In most cases, these sutures will be taken out about a week to 10 days after your buccal fat extraction. Do not participate in contact sports until your surgeon gives you the go ahead.

Nasolabial Fold Correction
The nasolabial folds are the deep folds which run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth. This is one of the first signs of aging, although younger people with prominent fatty cheek pads may also have prominent nasolabial folds. It is one of the most difficult areas/complaints to correct and can depend on several factors, including fatty cheek pads, dermal fissures from “overly” animated faces (smiling), skin elasticity and thickness and downward cheek pad migration.
There are non-invasive remedies which can be temporary and permanent injectable fillers to more invasive, surgical means such as cheek pad lifts and lateral face lifts. There are even newer mid-face lifting techniques which have proven to its effectiveness. Some patients choose nasolabial implants which are removable/reversible until a better means comes along. Please seek several opinions (several consultations) to go over your many options.

Otoplasty or cosmetic ear surgery is intended to change the appearance of the external portion of your ears. Ear plastic surgery can reposition ears excessively protruding from the side of the head, reduce the size of very large ears, or reshape bends in cartilage. Other reconstructive otoplasty procedures can deal with deformed ears, but many otoplasty ear surgeries are performed because the individual is simply unhappy about the size or shape of their ears. Ear surgery is appropriate for patients aged 5-6 and up, the surgery can correct the angle and size of the ears, making them more proportionate with the rest of the face and helping to boost self-image.
Your ear is composed of a thin cartilage cover with a thin layer of skin. During your ear surgery, one or more incisions are made behind the ear to give access to your ear cartilage. Through this incision your ear can be manipulated and sculpted to meet your desires; smaller, closer, and proportional. Our ears are a relatively small part of us, but to some they’re a huge distraction, if anything otoplasty ear surgery can put your worst fears about your ears to rest.

Orthognathic surgery is needed when jaws don’t meet correctly and/or teeth don’t seem to fit with jaws. Teeth are straightened with orthodontics andcorrective jaw surgery repositions misaligned jaws. This not only improves facial appearance, but also ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly.
Who Needs Orthognathic Surgery?
People who can benefit from orthognathic surgeryinclude those with an improper bite or jaws that are positioned incorrectly. Jaw growth is a gradual process and in some instances, the upper and lower jaws may grow at different rates. The result can be a host of problems that can affect chewing function, speech, long-term oral health and appearance. Injury to the jaw and birth defects can also affect jaw alignment. Orthodontics alone can correct bite problems when only the teeth are involved.Orthognathic surgery may be required if the jaws need repositioning.
Difficulty in the following areas should be evaluated:
* Difficulty in chewing, biting or swallowing
* Speech problems
* Chronic jaw or TMJ pain
* Open bite
* Protruding jaw
* Breathing problems Any of these can exist at birth or may be acquired after birth as a result of hereditary or environmental influences or the result of trauma to the face. Before any treatment begins, a consultation will be held to perform a complete examination with x-rays. During the pre-treatment consultation process, feel free to ask any questions that you have regarding your treatment. When you are fully informed about the aspects of your care, you and your dental team will make the decision to proceed with treatment together. If you are a candidate for Corrective Jaw Surgery, we will work closely with the orthodontist during your treatment. The actual surgery can move your teeth and jaws into a new position that results in a more attractive, functional and healthy dental-facial relationship.
