Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR)

Gum surgery or periodontal surgery is evolving with the advancement of technology. Today, new techniques and materials are being used to treat periodontal disease quickly and effectively. The latest technique used in periodontal surgery is the Regeneration technique.

In the Regeneration technique, new tissues are reconstructed or rebuild to a certain extent when the original tissues are lost because of periodontal disease.

Hyderabad Smiles Advanced Dental Hospitals uses the following two methods of Regeneration technique:

  • Bone Grafting
  • Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR)

Guided Tissue Regeneration

GTR is a surgical procedure that is used to regenerate the periodontal tissues that are lost due to the advanced periodontal disease.

In the GTR technique, a collagen membrane is used to stop the growth of the unrequired tissues and promote the growth of healthy tissues that quickly heal the area of the periodontal area.

Procedure of GTR Treatment

We perform the GTR procedure under local anesthesia. After numbing the area, we do the flap surgery to separate the gum from the teeth and clean the area. If required, we place the bone grafting material into the space and a collagen membrane on the defect. After this, we stitch back the gum to its original place. We remove the stitches after 7-10 days. The collagen membrane is resorbable, i.e., it dissolves on its own.
